Overview of the Catherine Leahy Brine Educational Consultants, Inc.
Massachusetts Department of Education-Approved
District-Based Initial Licensure ProgramsThe regulations for Educator Licensure and Program Approval (603 CMR 7.00) require all candidates seeking initial or professional licensure as a teacher in Massachusetts to complete a Department-approved educator preparation program. Under the regulations, the Commissioner of Education has the statutory authority to approve an expanded variety of educator preparation programs, whether or not they are degree programs.
The following Catherine Leahy Brine, Inc. Initial Licensure Programs have been approved by the Department of Education and its Commissioner:

- Health/Family/Consumer science (ALL)
- History (5-8; 8-12)
- Instructional Technology (ALL)
- Latin and Classical Humanities (ALL)
- Mathematics (5-8; 8-12)
- Middle School Humanities (5-8)
- Middle School Mathematics/Science
- Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General (ALL)
- Physical Education (PreK-8; 5-12)
- Physics (5-8; 8-12)

Proposed Sequence of Courses for the 18-credit stand-alone Initial Licensure Program
Semester One
- EDUC 7000 Topics: Foundations of Reading Instruction (for early childhood candidates - 3 cr.) OR
- EDUC 7000 Topics: Literacy in the Elementary School (for elementary candidates - 3 cr.) OR
- EDUC 7000 Topics: Introduction to Strategies for Effective Literacy Instruction Across the Disciplines (for middle, secondary and special area candidates - 3 cr.)
Second Semester
- EDUC 7000 Topics: Teaching Responsible Behavior (for early childhood and elementary candidates - 3 cr.) OR
- EDUC 7000 Topics: Succeeding with the Resistant Student (for middle, secondary and special area candidates - 3 cr.)
- And for all candidates: EDUC 7500 Curriculum Design for Multi-Needs Populations (3 cr.)
Third Semester
- EDUC 7000 Topics: The Psychology of Learning for the Inclusion of All Students (for all candidates - 3 cr.)
Fourth Semester
- EDUC 7000 Advanced Seminar in Curriculum and Teaching (for all candidates - 3 cr.)
- Practicum Experience (The number of hours will vary according to the license held - 3 cr.)
Credits may not be transferred into the stand- alone 18-credit license program.All graduate credit is awarded through our higher education partner, Fitchburg State College.
