Overview of the Site-Based
Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) and (5-12)
Initial License Program
Offered through Catherine Leahy Brine Educational Consultants, Inc.

These programs have been through the final stage of review and have been formally approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education. These Initial Licensure Programs are intended for candidates who hold a Preliminary License in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, both PreK-8 and 5-12. Upon final approval of the programs by the Massachusetts Department of Education, candidates who successfully complete the program will earn an Initial License in the area of their Preliminary License. The Program may be taken as a 21-credit stand-alone Initial Licensure Program or it may embedded into the 36-credit Fitchburg State University Master of Education in General Studies.

Proposed Sequence of Courses for the 21-credit stand-alone Initial Licensure Program: (sequence of courses are subject to change depending on the needs of the candidates or the program)

Each of the following is a three credit course, for a total of 21 graduate credits. All graduate credit is awarded through Fitchburg State University.

Cost of the program is $325.00 per credit, for a total of $6,825.00.

There is an additional non-refundable application/processing fee of $150.00, payable to Catherine Leahy Brine, Inc.

Semester One:

EDUC 7000 The Literacy course appropriate to the candidates' level, PreK-8 or 5-12

EDUC 7650 Inclusion of Students with Special Needs in Regular Education

Semester Two:

EDUC 7000 Topics: Managing Classroom Behavior

EDUC 7500 Curriculum Design for Multi-Needs Populations

Semester Three:

EDUC 7000 Topics: The Psychology of Learning for the Inclusion of All Students

Semester Four:

EDUC 7000 Topics: Advanced Seminar in Curriculum and Teaching

EDUC 7000 Practicum (300 hours for PreK-8; 150 hours for 5-12)
